In fact, 'Hold It Against Me' could be off to the most successful start of any lead single that Britney has ever released. Check out some of the song’s other early accomplishments below, which have all taken place within 24 hours of it’s premiere.
1. Broke the record for the most first day radio spins with 705, beating out Mariah Carey’s 498 for 'Touch My Body'.
2. 7.584 Audience Impressions from Pop Radio – Over 9 million impressions in total from all formats. This is millions more than Britney’s last two chart toppers, '3' and 'Womanizer', both got.
3. Incredibly positive reaction from radio and listeners: Z100 told MTV, “”People are going crazy for it. They heard the leaked version and loved it, and now they’re loving the official version too. I can see it being another huge hit for her. “The reaction [to the song] this morning was outstanding.” WFLZ say, “We’re playing it at the top of every hour, and the reaction has been great.”
4. In a poll held on Billboard, almost 89% of voters voted HIAM as “Amazing — it’s a hit!”, 6.3% voted “I Like It…” and almost 5.1% voted “Dislike”. Close to 26,000 votes were counted overall.
5. HIAM has been universally critically-acclaimed: 4/5 Stars from Rolling Stone, 4.5/5 from Artist Direct, and positive reviews from L.A. Times, Top 40, The Sun, Popjustice, MTV, Yahoo Music, Idolator, and Neon Limelight.
6. Second fastest rise to the top of iTunes ever with 8 hours, just behind Taylor Swift’s 'Mine' which accomplished the feat in 5. However, it should be noted that 'Mine' was released at the peak buying time of 4pm, whereas 'Hold It Against Me' was released at midnight.
7. Has already hit #1 on iTunes in 14 different countries.
And must we be reminded that the song accidentally leaked early, and the only ‘promo’ Britney has done was Tweet a couple of times and get snapped by the paparazzi looking tired and taking Sean Preston to a birthday party?
